Towards the end of the 18th century and during much of the 19th century many drawings of birds, animals and plants were procured in India and Southeast Asia. The artists in many cases were Indian and Chinese. This catalogue, from the collection at the Indian Office Library, describes the circumstances in which they were made and the careers of collectors and their varied attitudes to natural history.
